Money and Mail Online Motoring exclusively revealed this week that recent discussions with the Department of Transport has reaffirmed the Government's plan to reinstate the ban on new petrol and diesel cars to 2030.
Despite no mention in the King's Speech last month, the new government's much anticipated restoring of the 2030 transition to electric vehicles is definitely coming. This shouldn't come as a great surprise bearing in mind that Labour heavily ran with bringing the ban on new internal combustion cars forward as part of its general election manifesto. Previously, Rishi Sunak had pushed back the ban till 2035.
There is little detail at this stage of what the new Government plans to offer in terms of support to facilitate the switchover date. However, it is widely anticipated that the acceleration of chargepoint rollout UK wide will be Labour's primary focus.
